Alfama is the oldest district of Lisbon, spreading on the slope between the São Jorge Castle and the Tejo river. Its name comes from the Arabic Al-hamma, meaning fountains or baths. It includes the freguesias (parishes) of São Miguel, Santo Estêvão, São Vicente de Fora and part of two streets of Freguesia da Sé: Rua do Barão and Rua São João da Praça. It contains many important historical attractions, with many Fado bars and restaurants. The great 1755 Lisbon Earthquake did not destroy the Alfama, which has remained a picturesque labyrinth of narrow streets and small squares. Lately, the neighbourhood has been invigorated with the renovation of the old houses and new restaurants where Fado—Portuguese typical melancholy music—can be enjoyed.

Please note that this property is in the heart of Alfama. DURING THE MONTH OF JUNE Lisbon celebrates with street parties in Alfama. These last until 2-3 am every day except Mondays and the streets are filled with stalls selling Grilled Sardines, Sangria, Wine & Beer. In the last two weeks of May, there is some noise on the street due to the construction of the stalls during work hours. In May there will be construction of stalls on the street which makes noise. To ensure compliance with Portuguese law with the declaration of foreigners at the border police SEF, this establishment requires Online Check-in through its own channel, which may ask the tourist for an image of the identity document and/or a photograph. Personal data will be processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament. In this sense, the necessary measures will be taken to avoid alteration, loss, treatment, or unauthorized access.
