Alfama is the oldest district of Lisbon, spreading on the slope between the São Jorge Castle and the Tejo river. Its name comes from the Arabic Al-hamma, meaning fountains or baths. It includes the freguesias (parishes) of São Miguel, Santo Estêvão, São Vicente de Fora and part of two streets of Freguesia da Sé: Rua do Barão and Rua São João da Praça. It contains many important historical attractions, with many Fado bars and restaurants. The great 1755 Lisbon Earthquake did not destroy the Alfama, which has remained a picturesque labyrinth of narrow streets and small squares. Lately, the neighbourhood has been invigorated with the renovation of the old houses and new restaurants where Fado—Portuguese typical melancholy music—can be enjoyed.

A cozy 1 bedroom apartment perfect for solo travelers or couples looking to explore the authenticity and traditional Alfama neighbourhood. The apartment is located in the heart of Alfama, just behind Sao Miguel Church. Close to the city center. The apartment is located on the 2nd floor with steep steps to access it, on a cobblestoned street. There is no car access.

To reach the apartment you have to climb some flights of steep stairs. Please note that this apartment is in the heart of Alfama. DURING THE MONTH OF JUNE Lisbon celebrates with street parties in Alfama. These last until 2 am from Wednesdays to Sundays and the streets are filled with stalls selling Grilled Sardines, Sangria, wine & Beer. In the last two weeks of May there is some noise on the street due to the construction of the stalls during work hours. If you like a good street party you could not be in a better location. If you are looking for a quiet holiday this is not the place to stay during the month of June. The apartment is located on the old Alfama and car access is not possible. The closest a taxi or car can get to the apartment is about 200 metres away. If you are travelling with heavy luggage or have difficulty carrying luggage this might be a problem for you. To ensure compliance with Portuguese law with the declaration of foreigners at the border police SEF, this establishment requires Online Check-in through its own channel, which may ask the tourist for an image of the identity document and/or a photograph. Personal data will be processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament.
